I have a question about Please avoid using pipes where possible. If a character had a canonical name change and fandom refers to them with one or the other name depending on when in the timeline they're referencing, is that a case where pipes are acceptable?

The specific character is Takua | Takanuva from Bionicle G1. He renamed himself after a plot-significant power-up/transformation, so it's not like a superhero's secret identity or a dub changing a name. I would expect that if anybody else was interested in Bionicle for TOT, they'd understand who I meant and why piping is an appropriate choice for this specific instance.
