Nominations

Nominations are now open!

Some fandoms have specific guidelines.  Check them out here.  For fandoms that are split up I did not list every single possible subcategory for every one of those fandoms.

You can nominate six fandoms with six characters each.

You may nominate generic original characters such as Original Male Elf, Original Sailor Senshi, Original Tag Wrangler, etc.  We will not be accepting specific original characters.

Do not use any fan nicknames when nominating characters.  Describe the character instead.

We will not be accepting group or relationship nominations. If there is a character that is a special case in that they could sort of count as one individual or many then leave a comment to explain it to me.

The category of Original Works is allowed.  Crossover Fandoms is not.  All crossovers should be limited to your optional details.

If you participated in EveryWoman and want to know if canon helpers will be used in this exchange the answer is: no.  As long as Trick or Treat matches on just characters I won’t be using canon helpers here.

There are three rules for RPF:

1. For contemporary RPF the individuals must be over the age of 18.

2. Non-famous friends and family are not eligible

3. The person in question can be removed from the tagset at the request of the individual

I will be prioritizing fandoms that are easy for me to accept.  If you want to get your nominations accepted faster then here is how to help:

1.      Check the fandom guidelines to see if your fandom should be done a specific way.

2.       Disambiguate your characters.  It makes it less likely for me to make mistakes and is faster.  Disambiguating never hurts.

3.       Make sure you are spelling the character’s name correctly, especially if the character’s name is spelt differently in different canons.

4.       Link me info!  If you want to link me to something like the fandom wiki page for each character then that is great!  TVtropes character list page?  That could work.  IMDB? Wikipedia?  If I don’t know a fandom I have to look it up and this will speed things up especially for small fandoms, Transformers, Tolkien, and comics.

I nominated Staving Vampire. I meant Starving Vampire. Please add an 'r'?

Hi! I just nominated the team from the Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra youtube channels under video blogging rpf.

Oh dear! Hi, I've just realized that one of my nominations (The Bedlam Stacks) is so new that there's no wiki page yet. As an alternative, here's Bloomsbury Publishing's page about the book. Fortunately it includes a lengthy blurb that mentions both of the characters I nominated. Hope this helps.

Hello, regarding my nominations:

?! Doomworld!Mick Rory (Legends of Tomorrow)
?! Doomworld!Ray Palmer (Legends of Tomorrow)

I mean the characters from the "Doomworld" alternate reality; they have a different backgrounds than their original selves, due to get their whole lives and the world they live in altered by the Spear of Destiny. At some point they go back in time and interact with their non-altered alter-egos. Link:

Okay, I've nominated a couple odd things:

The Undeading (Youtube video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApmPQDAzYyM

AT&T "Polite Dinner" Commercials
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVDWfuiDSDo

The Writer Automaton (Short Film)
https://www.chonday.com/videos/the-writer-automaton

I also nominated NASCAR RPF with no characters specified, as I'm not fussy about drivers. If that's not acceptable, I can add some names, just let me know.

About my Gridlocked noms, this is the Wiki page:

May I ask why anon comments are disabled?

I think I'm fine with what's there. Just kind of annoyed at AO3. Thank you, though!

Back with my last two noms!

The Bright in the Screen (Video Game) is a flash game, which can be found here:

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/469443

Blue Guy and Red Freaks are the in-game names given to the protagonist and the enemies, while the Narrator is the person behind the screens that communicate with the protagonist.

I nominated the Red Freaks as one character due to the fact that they are stated in canon to be of one mind, and "all the same."

Unedited Footage of a Bear (2014 Short) is a short film that aired on Adult Swim. It can be seen here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gMjJNGg9Z8

Donna is the name of the main character. I used "Evil Donna" to refer to the violent duplicate who attacks her.

Most of my nominations are straightforward - things I or someone else have requested in previous years, nominated in the same format. (I have nominated characters for Liáo zhāi zhì yì | Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio - Pú Sōnglíng the way you advised me to in previous years.)

The two that aren't already canonical are Youth on Horseback - Anton Pieck, a piece of artwork you can see here, and Les Contes d'Hoffmann - Offenbach/Barbier which is a slightly weird case - there is a canonical AO3 tag for it, but it's misspelt, with Hoffmann having only one n, even though it's spelt correctly in all the canonical character disambiguations. I mean, I have no strong feelings about it - if it's easier to use the existing though incorrect AO3 tag, obviously that's fine. I do have a vague memory of making a support request at some point to get the spelling corrected, but I think that was getting on for a year ago...

For the Mount & Blade (Video Game) fandom, which is canonical, three characters that don't exist yet on the Archive:

Arwa the Pearled One (Mount & Blade) - http://mountandblade.wikia.com/wiki/Arwa_the_Pearled_One
Isolla of Suno (Mount & Blade) - http://mountandblade.wikia.com/wiki/Lady_Isolla_of_Suno

Hi! I'm new here, so I've never done this before. I was trying to nominate Alistair from Supernatural. There wasn't a character on the list of Alistair's that specified Supernatural. So I just picked the general one. I hope that's okay.

[personal profile] agirlnamedtruth 2017-09-07 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully my nominations should be pretty straightforward as they're all canonical tags and most have (TV) in their tag but I just wanted to clarify that The Borgias (2011) is the showtime TV show: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Borgias_(2011_TV_series) and not the Canal+ one. Preacher is the TV show; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preacher_(TV_series) not the comic. Also despite the tag brackets, I'd like to nominate Tatia (Vampire Diaries) under The Originals (TV) as she is only ever mentioned in The Vampire Diaries but she is actually portrayed on screen in The Originals.

Here are some character bios for the ones AO3 hasn't auto-accepted;
The Originals: Tatia (Vampire Diaries) -- http://vampirediaries.wikia.com/wiki/Tatia
The Borgias: Giulia Farnese -- http://theborgias.wikia.com/wiki/Giulia_Farnese
Preacher: Adolf Hitler -- http://preacher.wikia.com/wiki/Adolf_Hitler
Preacher: Herr Starr -- http://preacher.wikia.com/wiki/Klaus_Starr
Teen Wolf: Scott McCall -- http://teenwolf.wikia.com/wiki/Scott_McCall

Thank you!

I nominated Knitting (Anthropomorphic) with different yarns as characters.
"Handspun wool yarn" is a description of a type of yarn; the other 5 are specific yarns. Here are their listings on Ravelry. (The name on Ravelry is always the longest version of the name, so there are some discrepancies between the common names that I used and the titles of the pages; but if you look at the photos, those all match the names I used.)

Checking the status of my nominations, I'm seeing that one character hasn't been approved yet and I realize I didn't think it through while nominating her, sorry:

For Twin Peaks, I nominated "Diane Evans". Here she is: http://twinpeaks.wikia.com/wiki/Diane_Evans
Thing is, the character has been around for 27 years but we've only learned her surname this June, so her canonical is "Diane (Twin Peaks)".
I also didn't know that there's already a character called Diane Evans in the Roswell TV show who has the tag "Diane Evans" on AO3, causing further confusion.
My nomination is, of course, for Twin Peaks' Diane. Should I edit my nomination to "Diane (Twin Peaks)" or will the mods do it?

Sorry for the mess!

(I also nominated Jeff Zandi for Myst Series and he's the only one of that bunch who hasn't been approved yet - here he is, just in case: http://www.mystwiki.com/wiki/Jeff_Zandi )

XX (2017) is an anthology horror film. You can find information on the characters I'm nominating (Cora and Andy) under the info for the short film they're in called 'Her Only Living Son' under the Plot tab on the Wikipedia page here.
coaldustcanary: Eleanor of Aquitane from The Lion In Winter (Default)

The canonical for the character is "Alastair (Supernatural)" - slightly different spelling than is often seen! http://supernatural.wikia.com/wiki/Alastair

When the Archive is back up again (it's down for maintenance currently) you can check and see if the nomination has been approved yet. If it hasn't, you should be able to edit your nominations and change them.

If it's been approved, the mod will have to make the edit.

Posting for a friend of mine who doesn't have a DW account:

"Hello! Just wanted to clarify that I've specifically nominated the National Theatre's production of Twelfth Night, in which Tamsin Greig plays a gender-swapped Malvolio (Malvolia) and Doon Mackichan plays Feste.

Not my nomination, but The Bedlam Stacks - Natasha Pulley, which is listed under 'Uncategorized Fandoms', is a book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31450615-the-bedlam-stacks

Star Wars nominations

[personal profile] mossy_bench 2017-09-08 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Regarding some Star Wars nominations:

I nominated these characters under Sequel Trilogy, and they appear as not being associated with that fandom:
- Devi (Star Wars)
- Strunk (Star Wars)
- FN-2003 | Slip
- Korr Sella

Devi, Strunk, and Slip appear in the book Before the Awakening, set right before The Force Awakens. Slip also appears briefly at the beginning of The Force Awakens. I thought it'd be splitting hairs to nominate them under the book; I hope this is okay.

Before the Awakening wiki page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Before_the_Awakening

Korr Sella has a brief appearance in The Force Awakens. She also appears in the book Bloodline, but again, I thought it would be less complicated and more accessible if I nominated her under Sequel Trilogy. (idk - if someone as strong feelings to the contrary, feel free to change that).

Wiki page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Korr_Sella

Additionally, I nominated Greer Sonnel under Bloodline, because it's the only piece of Star Wars media that she appears in (besides a small accompanying short story). Wiki page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Greer_Sonnel

(Also, could you please allow anonymous comments? Thank you!)

This isn't my nomination, but I'm confused about the Mewlips being in the tag set under The Hobbit book. They don't ever appear there, or have any association with it as far as I know. They're from a poem by Tolkien (called "The Mewlips") which appears in a collection of poems called "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses from the Red Book," most commonly found in The Tolkien Reader. The title of the poetry collection implies that these verses were collected by Bilbo or other LOTR characters. Some of the poems have an obvious connection with Middle-earth, and some of them (like The Mewlips) have no clear connection except for their atmosphere and the fact of their being in this collection.

(It's a wonderfully creepy poem, though, and I'd be happy to see the Mewlips in the tag set somewhere.)

Shades of Magic - V.E. Schwab, other fandoms

[personal profile] mossy_bench 2017-09-08 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I nominated Astrid Dane and Athos Dane under Shades of Magic. Here are their wiki pages: http://schwab.wikia.com/wiki/Athos_Dane and http://schwab.wikia.com/wiki/Astrid_Dane

I nominated these characters under The Shadow Campaigns - Django Wexler:
- Marcus d'Ivoire
- Janus bet Vhalnich
- Raesinia Orboan
- Winter Ihernglass
- Cytomandiclea

Here's a post from the author's blog listing some characters (Marcus, Winter, Janus, and Raesinia) : http://djangowexler.com/2016/03/01/shadow-campaigns-ages/

As for Cytomandiclea, Googling her (very uncommon) name will probably yield good results. She's also mentioned on the series' TVtropes page, if that's helpful? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/TheShadowCampaigns

"The Sword of Welleran" is a short story by Lord Dunsany. It's too obscure to have a Wikipedia entry listing the characters, but the story is on Project Gutenberg here:

http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/10806/pg10806-images.html

and the characters I've nominated are all listed together in the second paragraph.
