Various Things

AO3 support has been contacted about the authors failing to reveal.

[personal profile] shadowsapiens will be the official Chief Goblin next year.

Neither community challenge, Challenge Yourself or Shopping List, were completed this year.  But you all got very close to completing Shopping List.  Shopping List was very ambitious and it didn't work out as planned, but I'm still glad that we tried it this year.  We won't be revisiting Shopping List unless I can find a way to make it far more manageable. Next year we will be playing a game of Battleship.

If you have never played it before, here is a page about the game.  It will be done as the entire community trying to sink my ships.  The squares will operate like they did in Bingo.  I will be picking the difficulty roughly the same way as I did for Bingo.  You don't have to get the entire board to win, you just need to find where my hidden ships are and sink them.

For next year, if this bug hasn't been resolved, I will temporarily close the collection just during work and author reveals.  As soon as the reveals have gone through the collection will be reopened.

If you participated in Challenge Yourself and want to talk about how you challenged yourself then do so on this post.

Okay, so for shadow's endless curiosity I'm going to do this.
I actually only tagged one work of mine for the challenge, because I thought it was silly to tag them all. Every single thing I wrote for the collection was challenging, though!

The one I tagged was "The Vaunted Halls Of Old" for the epic poem Aniara--was challenging because it was poetry and epic poetry at that. It took me quite a bit to even find a copy of the Poetic Edda because I couldn't get the rhyme scheme out of my head and wanted to compare the two if at all possible. Well, spoiler alert: it fucking wasn't. It turned out the similarities were mostly in my mind, and perhaps in the subject matter (at least that's my entirely unprofessional opinion on both) I'm still not entirely sure if the rhyme scheme even matches up to the original Aniara poem. I tried, though! And at least the story made it through my editing :D

Thank you & Challenge Yourself

I take my hat off to you folks for your hard work in trying times.
I tagged my assignment as "Challenge Yourself" because it was quite an ambitious project for me. I didn't complete the work to the full extent of the scope I wanted, but was still very pleased with what I accomplished.
-- First challenge - this was my first (completed) fanwork for this fandom, Namesake. *waves hands at half-finished fics*
-- Second challenge - I drew all three requested characters plus one other, dressed up for Hallowe'en. Perusing the Community Challenge tags, I got it into my head to dress them up as the band KISS. (Plan A was to have many of the other characters in costume in the background at a party. The world has been mercifully spared the sight of Ben Kench dressed as Colonel Sanders.)
-- Third challenge - sooooo many details go into those KISS outfits, omg. Sooo many hours perusing the band's official site and other merch sites. Dudes, you go, your legacy is a thing of beauty I did not fully appreciate during your heyday while I was in high school. (I was into Cheap Trick, what can I say.) I had to work those details onto the character design of characters I'd never actually tried drawing before, and then figure out which ones to amend to make a visual story that fit with these characters.
I was not up to a fourth challenge - learning to draw digitally. Nopenopenope not yet. I was deeply into InkTober, so I thought it was a natural fit to do this picture as B&W ink as well. Sooo much black ink, time for a new set of Fineliners, I reckon.
9/10 would participate again. Thank you again. wavewright62

I wrote more and more challenging darkfic than I've written before, really getting into psychological horror with "We All Know Where We Go from There" and writing second-person POV for "Work for Hire". HUGE THANKS to much more experienced horror writer TexasDreamer01 for beta reads and fantastic advice on both—I couldn't have done it without that help.

I said this on the discord channel, but I enjoyed myself despite the bugs that found their way into the exchange. Looking forward to next year! <3

I wrote the Murdebot story, The Last Days of Battle Station Omega. Murderbot was the fandom I was most nervous about putting on my offers list. It was a challenge to write a canon that felt daunting to me, and to offer to write in a canon by someone I'm online friends with.

For challenge yourself (and shopping list), I wrote guro for the first time! I've requested Buzzfeed Unsolved for a couple exchanges, and when no one wrote my dark, kinky prompts, I decided to write them myself. I've written graphic violence and noncon before, but nothing quite this extreme, and I had a lot of fun writing it. I'm happy with how it turned out.
