Nominations

Nominations are now open!

Some fandoms have specific guidelines.  Check them out here.  For fandoms that are split up I did not list every single possible subcategory for every one of those fandoms.

You can nominate six fandoms with six characters each.

You may nominate generic original characters such as Original Male Elf, Original Sailor Senshi, Original Tag Wrangler, etc.  We will not be accepting specific original characters.

Do not use any fan nicknames when nominating characters.  Describe the character instead.

We will not be accepting group or relationship nominations. If there is a character that is a special case in that they could sort of count as one individual or many then leave a comment to explain it to me.

The category of Original Works is allowed.  Crossover Fandoms is not.  All crossovers should be limited to your optional details.

If you participated in EveryWoman and want to know if canon helpers will be used in this exchange the answer is: no.  As long as Trick or Treat matches on just characters I won’t be using canon helpers here.

There are three rules for RPF:

1. For contemporary RPF the individuals must be over the age of 18.

2. Non-famous friends and family are not eligible

3. The person in question can be removed from the tagset at the request of the individual

I will be prioritizing fandoms that are easy for me to accept.  If you want to get your nominations accepted faster then here is how to help:

1.      Check the fandom guidelines to see if your fandom should be done a specific way.

2.       Disambiguate your characters.  It makes it less likely for me to make mistakes and is faster.  Disambiguating never hurts.

3.       Make sure you are spelling the character’s name correctly, especially if the character’s name is spelt differently in different canons.

4.       Link me info!  If you want to link me to something like the fandom wiki page for each character then that is great!  TVtropes character list page?  That could work.  IMDB? Wikipedia?  If I don’t know a fandom I have to look it up and this will speed things up especially for small fandoms, Transformers, Tolkien, and comics.

Posting for a friend of mine who doesn't have a DW account:

"Hello! Just wanted to clarify that I've specifically nominated the National Theatre's production of Twelfth Night, in which Tamsin Greig plays a gender-swapped Malvolio (Malvolia) and Doon Mackichan plays Feste.

Not my nomination, but The Bedlam Stacks - Natasha Pulley, which is listed under 'Uncategorized Fandoms', is a book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31450615-the-bedlam-stacks

Star Wars nominations

[personal profile] mossy_bench 2017-09-08 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Regarding some Star Wars nominations:

I nominated these characters under Sequel Trilogy, and they appear as not being associated with that fandom:
- Devi (Star Wars)
- Strunk (Star Wars)
- FN-2003 | Slip
- Korr Sella

Devi, Strunk, and Slip appear in the book Before the Awakening, set right before The Force Awakens. Slip also appears briefly at the beginning of The Force Awakens. I thought it'd be splitting hairs to nominate them under the book; I hope this is okay.

Before the Awakening wiki page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Before_the_Awakening

Korr Sella has a brief appearance in The Force Awakens. She also appears in the book Bloodline, but again, I thought it would be less complicated and more accessible if I nominated her under Sequel Trilogy. (idk - if someone as strong feelings to the contrary, feel free to change that).

Wiki page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Korr_Sella

Additionally, I nominated Greer Sonnel under Bloodline, because it's the only piece of Star Wars media that she appears in (besides a small accompanying short story). Wiki page: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Greer_Sonnel

(Also, could you please allow anonymous comments? Thank you!)

Shades of Magic - V.E. Schwab, other fandoms

[personal profile] mossy_bench 2017-09-08 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I nominated Astrid Dane and Athos Dane under Shades of Magic. Here are their wiki pages: http://schwab.wikia.com/wiki/Athos_Dane and http://schwab.wikia.com/wiki/Astrid_Dane

I nominated these characters under The Shadow Campaigns - Django Wexler:
- Marcus d'Ivoire
- Janus bet Vhalnich
- Raesinia Orboan
- Winter Ihernglass
- Cytomandiclea

Here's a post from the author's blog listing some characters (Marcus, Winter, Janus, and Raesinia) : http://djangowexler.com/2016/03/01/shadow-campaigns-ages/

As for Cytomandiclea, Googling her (very uncommon) name will probably yield good results. She's also mentioned on the series' TVtropes page, if that's helpful? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/TheShadowCampaigns
zdenka: The Doors of Khazad-dum. (tolkien)

This isn't my nomination, but I'm confused about the Mewlips being in the tag set under The Hobbit book. They don't ever appear there, or have any association with it as far as I know. They're from a poem by Tolkien (called "The Mewlips") which appears in a collection of poems called "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses from the Red Book," most commonly found in The Tolkien Reader. The title of the poetry collection implies that these verses were collected by Bilbo or other LOTR characters. Some of the poems have an obvious connection with Middle-earth, and some of them (like The Mewlips) have no clear connection except for their atmosphere and the fact of their being in this collection.

(It's a wonderfully creepy poem, though, and I'd be happy to see the Mewlips in the tag set somewhere.)

"The Sword of Welleran" is a short story by Lord Dunsany. It's too obscure to have a Wikipedia entry listing the characters, but the story is on Project Gutenberg here:

http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/10806/pg10806-images.html

and the characters I've nominated are all listed together in the second paragraph.

I nominated Gotham Central rather than putting the characters under general DC Comics because some of them have appeared before/after in other contexts. I want to avoid matching with someone who has, for example, offered Renee Montoya hoping to write her as the Question, or Crispus Allen as the Spectre. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_Central

Also, you can find the Blockbuster Pet Shop ads on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PbyUgLMUdA

Sure, fine. I just figured it was one of those "self-contained" things, being a limited time line. I'll make sure I word my request carefully, then.

Arang and the Magistrate is a Korean drama:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arang_and_the_Magistrate

The page lists everyone I nominated, except I used a different transliteration for a couple of the characters (because the Wikipedia page uses inconsistent transliterations):

Choi Juwal instead of Joo-wal
Muyeong instead of Mu-young

Muyeon and Muyeong are different people (sister and brother).

Flying Witch is an anime+manga and the ANN page has a list of characters: http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=17448

My noms for BanG Dream! Girl's Band Party are all canonized, but for cross-checking purposes the Wikia has a list of characters: http://bandori.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters

One more last minute nomination! I want to nominate the short film Dood van een Schaduw | Death of a Shadow, and I'm nominating Nathan Rijckx, Sarah Winters, Daniel Hainaut, and the Collector of Shadows.

Here is the wikipedia page, and here is a link to the film.

For hopefully less impossible character lookup:

World Class Championship Wrestling
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Class_Championship_Wrestling

American Wrestling Association
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_Wrestling_Association_alumni

Mid South is a weird one because it later was the starting point for Bill Watt's attempt at going national with the Universal Wrestling Federation, so that's what the Wikipedia page is titled:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Wrestling_Federation_(Bill_Watts)

WWE
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WWE_alumni

WCW
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Championship_Wrestling_alumni

Quick note about all the separate wrestling promotions: they're all owned by different people, have different TV shows and different casts of characters, and only respect each other's continuity when the feel like it.

What makes it a little weird is that a lot of wrestlers outside of WWE own their own wrestling characters and can take them from company to company, though often changing from good to evil or changing backstories around or whatever.

It's like if Christian Bale could just decide, screw Justice League, I'll go be Batman in the Avengers for a while. And then go be a tragic zombie Batman who was somebody's cousin on The Walking Dead, then show up on Game of Thrones as the evil Lord Wayne whose House sigil is a Bat. And then I'll go back to DC superhero movies, but I'll play my character from American Psycho instead and just hope no one notices I was the Batman guy.

Die Zauberflöte/The Magic Flute:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Flute

The wikipedia page includes the cast list.

About the Three Ladies: they're the three attendants of the Queen of the Night. They always appear together, act together, and sing together. They have no individual characterization, so it wouldn't make sense to nominate just one of them.
muccamukk: Athos looking up with an ironic half smile. (Musketeers: Wry Look)

Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
A series of novellas, the first one being called All Systems Red. Here's the author's webpage for the series which mentions both chars nominated: http://www.marthawells.com/murderbot.htm

The Reckoning (2003)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258816/
Movie about a travelling theatre troop in 14th century England. Nicholas' last name is mentioned in the movie.

Twelve O'Clock High (1949)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041996/
WWII movie about bomber pilots, not to be confused with tv series of same name.

Okay, whoever entered the tags for the Marvel movie/TV properties is making me laugh, but I don't know if you actually want to keep them disambiguated the way they currently are for the exchange. Check out under the Agent Carter, Daredevil, and Marvel Cinematic Universe tag categories, for example. Those tags may need to be manually re-entered unless you want them to remain disambiguated as Ancient Cod, Doritos, and Moss Covered Unicorn.

Aha, gotcha! Well, it did make me laugh, and it seems like a good solution to the problem; I just wanted to bring it to your attention if it was something that needed fixing.

Here are some links to help verify the characters nominated under some smaller wrestling canons:

Being The Elite (Web Series) - there isn't a handy character list knocking around for this series, unfortunately, but this is its 'About' page from YouTube, and the nominated characters have all appeared in various episodes in recent weeks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2V6TA0OqHr9BojcHz9az-w/about

Empire State Wrestling - again, no handy roster list for this one, but all the nominated characters are referenced in the results round-up linked here. They were all regulars on the ESW roster for years: http://eswwrestling.com/results/2012-2/

New Japan Pro Wrestling roster list: https://www.njpw1972.com/profiles/

Lucha Underground TV show cast: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lucha_Underground_personnel

Ring of Honor roster list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ring_of_Honor_personnel (Adam Cole was in ROH until earlier this year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Cole)

Thanks for all your work!

Here are a couple of random tagset issues I noticed.

-John Watson (Downey films) has migrated into Sherlock Holmes - Arthur Conan Doyle.

-Under The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien, I believe these two are the same:

Original Ent Character (Silm)
Shepherds of the Trees (Silmarillion)

because "Shepherds of the Trees" is another name for the Ents.

Oh, and a few characters are wandering between Hamlet and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead (it seems thematically appropriate, but they should probably stick to their own canons).
