Tagset Nominations are Open

This is mostly a copy and paste from last year. The goblins will be around to approve things but I will be touch and go for a few days. I'm using the same fandom guidelines as last year.

Nominations are now open!

You can nominate six fandoms with six characters each.

You may nominate generic original characters such as Original Male Elf, Original Sailor Senshi, Original Tag Wrangler, etc. We will not be accepting specific original characters.

Do not use any fan nicknames when nominating characters. Describe the character instead.

We will not be accepting group or relationship nominations. If there is a character that is a special case in that they could sort of count as one individual or many then leave a comment to explain it to me.

The category of Original Works is allowed. Crossover Fandoms is not. All crossovers should be limited to your optional details.

There are three rules for RPF:
1. For contemporary RPF the individuals must be over the age of 18.
2. Non-famous friends and family are not eligible
3. The person in question can be removed from the tagset at the request of the individual

I will be prioritizing fandoms that are easy for me to accept. If you want to get your nominations accepted faster then here is how to help:
1. Check the fandom guidelines to see if your fandom should be done a specific way.
2. Disambiguate your characters. It makes it less likely for me to make mistakes and is faster. Disambiguating never hurts.
3. Make sure you are spelling the character’s name correctly, especially if the character’s name is spelt differently in different canons.
4. Link me info! If you want to link me to something like the fandom wiki page for each character then that is great! TVtropes character list page? That could work. IMDB? Wikipedia? If I don’t know a fandom I have to look it up and this will speed things up especially for small fandoms, Transformers, Tolkien, and comics.

I nominated TWEWY and for the record, Kiryu "Pink" Yoshiya and Bito "Black" Raimu are actual canon characters despite not having AO3 tags and they are distinct from Kiryu "Joshua" Yoshiya and Bito "Rhyme" Raimu. They're from a postgame canon AU.

My nomination for "Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery" has gotten itself approved as "Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling", and I can't edit it to clarify that I mean the game NOT the book, as it's got a tick next to it already.

Thank you :)

Um...Also, my Star Trek: the Original Series nominations had (TOS) next to them, but now say (Taping Our Sloth) LMAO

I noticed (Alicorns Offer Soup) next to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D characters, and I'm guessing they were disambiguated as (AOS).

It's the best thing I've seen all day, but might cause problems down the line...

I just realised this after seeing Warring Stars and More Warring Stars. Good solution. Also hilarious!

Ao3 made the brilliant decision to syn the mobile game to the books, so this is going to be a problem for every single exchange. I dread to think what's going to happen with Yuletide.

Yeah, I figured that's what probably happened. Argh, hadn't even thought of Yuletide. HP itself isn't eligible, so maybe that will be easier?

Marvel Cinematic Universe has (Moss Covered Unicorn) :Da

EDIT: I have seen this in a few more places that seem kind of deliberate (Warring Stars and More Warring Stars for Star Wars Original Trilogy and Star Wars Sequel Trilogy) and I am now assuming you're doing it to prevent character drift between related fandoms. If so, awesome work!

Please, is it possible to remove Rosefox? Their history of poor exchange behavior is causing a lot of concern, and their involvement, even in a small capacity (since they are known to push this) is making a lot of people worry or think twice about participating.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-02 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I love ToT but I won't feel comfortable participating at all with rosefox in any position of authority.

I don't think anyone's going to man up and contact you unanon. If you want more details, you can check out nonnies wanking themselves raw at the usual place. If you don't want to go through that much trouble, you're probably safe ignoring anon randos on this.

Hello :)

To help with one of my nominations (Palo Santo Music Videos - Years & Years), here's the band's press release for their Palo Santo album, which covers most of it:

http://machinemanagement.co.uk/news/years-years-release-album-and-short-film-palo-santo

The link clarifies the character names I've nominated and which music videos are included.

If you need any more info, do let me know.

Many thanks!

Yes, that's correct.

Here's the imdb page for Puppy Dog Pals

Here's the character page for Darrin on the wikia. I think his canonical tag might be the Darrin without a last name, but I wasn't sure.

Hello, mod!

Two of the fandoms I've just nominated are spin-offs of other canons. "Endeavour" is a prequel to the TV series "Inspector Morse", so there is some overlap of characters between the two, eg. Endeavour Morse, Jim Strange, Max DeBryn. Thought it might be worth mentioning, since "Morse" has already been nominated!

Endeavour Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endeavour_(TV_series)

Also, the BBC series "Dickensian" is a shared universe canon, featuring characters and storylines from several Charles Dickens novels, such as "Great Expectations" and "Bleak House". In my nomination, I've entered the characters' names as specific to the TV series - eg. "Inspector Bucket (Dickensian TV)" - but I'm aware that there still might be some character tag drift.

BBC One home page for Dickensian, including a list of characters: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06vbmfq

If you need any more information on these canons, I'll be happy to help!

I nominated The Sandman comics (characters: Thessaly, Second Corinthian), the canon and characters were approved and sorted into Cartoons & Comics. Now they're gone all from the tagset, but my nomination page still displays all tags as approved. Is this a bug?

I nominated Hocus Pocus & the All-New Sequel by A. W. Jantha. This is a recently-published book based on the movie Hocus Pocus (1993) which includes a sequel story set 25 years later. All the characters I've nominated (so far, anyway) are from the sequel story.

The book:

Some of the characters I nominated are described here:
https://ohmy.disney.com/news/2018/05/01/new-characters-hocus-pocus-sequel/

I also nominated Elizabeth Sanderson. She's related to the Sandersons from the original movie but she's a new character.

I think most of my nominations are straightforward. For two characters that don't have canonical character tags, I've nominated them on the pattern used for similar existing tags. So, under Omar Rayyan - Works, I've nominated Spanish Mackerel (Omar Rayyan - Works) on the same pattern as eg the existing Lady in Furs (Omar Rayyan - Works), and under Le città invisibili | Invisible Cities - Italo Calvino, I've nominated Euphemia (Invisible Cities) on the same pattern as the existing Isaura (Invisible Cities).

The one issue is with what in previous years I have nominated as Reynardine (Traditional Ballad) [further info]. This is how it's always previously appeared, and indeed how the only story in the fandom is tagged. It's also the same pattern as eg Tam Lin (Traditional Ballad), Thomas the Rhymer (Traditional Ballad) or Scarborough Fair (Traditional Ballad).

But for some reason, the canonical tag on AO3 has been changed to Reynardine | The Mountains High - Anonymous (Song). It seems a shame to lose the 'Traditional Ballad' part of the tag, which makes it quick in exchanges to see what ballads have been nominated, but if ToT has a policy of going with the canonical name, it should of course be the current piped version. The problem is the canonical character tags - the fair maid/young woman/young lady has been synned to The Farmer's Daughter, despite only being identified as that in some versions. If it's possible, I would really prefer to keep the less specific name (I have nominated her as The Young Woman), which applies equally to all versions of the song, including I think the majority of modern recordings.

Hi mod! Here's a bit more info on Hotel Artemis: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Artemis

I've included character names that I know in my nominations. The majority of the characters are known in the movie by the room they're assigned at the Artemis. (ie, Sterling K Brown's character is called Waikiki, and Sofia Boutella's character is called Nice.) The Nurse's assistant (Dave Bautista's character) is only called Everest.

Also, Waikiki and Nice will not stay capitalized for me in AO3 no matter how many times I try to edit :(

Hi o/

Casa Surace is a light-hearted Italian web series, both canon and RPF, as the characters play their own identities most of the time. Ricky and Pasqui are two of the main "cast". They became famous through vids posted on YouTube.

This is some clarifying information for the characters nominated under Penguins RPF.

Happy Feet (Penguins RPF) - This is the emperor penguin who was discovered on Peka Peka Beach, New Zealand, in 2011. He was nicknamed after the animated movie, but he is an actual historical figure, and not a movie character.

Wikipedia entry on penguins (section mentioning Happy Feet)

Tango (Penguins RPF) - This is the chinstrap penguin who was famously hatched and raised by Roy and Silo. She inspired a picture book called And Tango Makes Three, but I am nominating the actual historical figure, and not the fictionalised book character.

I nominated "Knitting (Anthropomorphic)" with the same characters that I nominated last year. In case it's needed, my comment on last year's nominations post has links to the Ravelry pages for the various yarns I nominated.
