For OCs, that depends on whether using the OCs would break anonymity, and whether the gift would stand alone for the recipient. So, generally I wouldn't do it.
But if you're treating a friend who you know would enjoy getting those characters, use your best judgment. I'm not going to google everyone's OC names before work reveals or anything.
