Nominations for the community challenge are open. These are not nominations for the exchange tagset.
You may recall that last year we played a game of community bingo. Each square had a challenge to complete and the community got a blackout. We will be doing something similar this year, only this time all of you get to decide how hard it’s going to be.
I have created a second tagset where you can nominate up to twenty freeforms. If you want to see more fanart then nominate “fanart” if you want to see more ghost stories, then nominate “ghosts”. How many times a particular tag is nominated determines how many times a work needs to fulfil that particular part of the challenge. So, if “vampire” is nominated five times then five works need to be completed to consider that marked off.
Nominations should fall under one of four categories:
1. General/Technical – These are tags that can be completed in almost any fandom. These are things like number of fics per person, gen, fics over a certain word count, fanart, hitting a certain number of works in the archive, styles, etc.
2. Treats – These can be narrower than general/technical, but broader than Halloween. These nominations are ones designed with the thought of more sweet, loving, happy, positive works, though of course the person fulfilling it doesn’t need to make it be a Treat. Some examples of these are family, pets, first love, etc.
3. Tricks - These can be narrower than general/technical, but broader than Halloween. These nominations are ones designed with the thought of more dark, creepy, or scary works, though of course the person fulfilling it doesn’t need to make it be a Trick. Some examples of these are werewolves, character death, psychological horror, etc.
4. Halloween – This is the category where you can get the most specific. Nominations here should be related to Halloween (I will allow ones for similar holidays, but you may have to comment to explain the connection). Things such as costumes, trick or treating, skulls, or pumpkins would be appropriate here.
When nominating use AO3 tags as much as you can.
This will make counting easy for me. If something is too specific I will count it as a broader category. For example, if we get nominations for anal sex, vaginal sex, and woman on top during sex, I will count that as three nominations for sex. These are supposed to be relatively broad tags that can be fulfilled a multitude of possible ways. A good example of what I’m looking for are the categories that were used last year for bingo. Think to yourself if something could be checked by a participant before the exchange goes live through using tags or the Sort and Filter section.
I am aware of how easy it is to stuff the ballot by using multiple accounts, so I am giving everyone my blessing to use all their socks and trading slots with each other. You can only nominate a tag once per account. This is an AO3 limitation and I can’t do anything about that.
This tagset not be used in the sign-ups at all. This will only impact the community challenge portion of the exchange. If you aren’t interested in the community challenge you can safely ignore it. Before I accept or reject a tag I can see how many accounts have nominated it after I accept or reject it I can no longer see it. Because of this, none of the tags will be accepted or rejected until nominations close for this tagset.
There will be something separate for people that want to do a community challenge but aren’t interested in this. One work can count towards both challenges. The other challenge will be announced when the final list is compiled.
